Lyrics

Everywhere You Go © 2002 Joe McDermott/True Blue Music

If you're like me you probably live under a roof
And that roof is probably near a street
A street that's filled with neighbors and friends
If you fall down they'd help you up again
And if you're like me you think it's sweet
To have these friends and neighbors on your street

If your street's like mine it's not alone
It connects to other streets and other roads
That wind through the mountains, through the woods
Those roads connect to other neighborhoods

Refrain:
On those streets there are people who will be your friend
And if you fell down they'd pick you up again
And that's anywhere you walk anywhere you drive
And that's one of the things I love about being alive

Bridge:
Maps show the way from here to there
Pretty lines that lead to everywhere
But the map won't show the people, rooftops, trees and steeple
Families and friends and neighbors who live there

If you're like me you like to fly
People enjoy being in the sky
We see all those roofs below
So many people we don't know

But under every roof there are people who will be our friends
And if they fell down we'd pick them up again
And that's anywhere you go anywhere you drive
And that's one of the things I love about being alive

Flying Saucer ©2002 JoeMcDermott/True Blue Music

The night was dark, the hour was late
I was out walking beyond the gate
Now walking at night is not usually for me
but you see my doggy had to go
Well, he had to go

When out of the stars, a mysterious flight
Across the sky on that dark dark night
With an eerie glow and a scary sound
A flying saucer was buzzing around

I saw the light from the flying saucer
Spinning around, spinning around
I saw the light from the flying saucer over our town

The saucer zigzagged across the sky
As if looking for something (or someone) oh my!
I hid behind the nearest tree but that saucer landed right next to me

Where did it come from? What could it be?
Why was it landing next to me?
With eerie music the silence was broken
I was ready to run when a window came open

An alien girl, glowing white said,
"Hurry up little boy, I don't have all night"
What I realized next really made me flip
it was an inner galactic ice cream ship

There were popsicles made from purple snow
The freezer gave off a pinkish glow
I reached in my pocket for money to pay and she said,
"Money! What century is it here anyway?"

She patted my head and kissed my cheek
My hair was glowing green for a week
She gave me two glowing ice cream bars and said,
" I'm not from around here, which way to mars?"

Now I only tell children this story you see
Who else could I tell? Who else would believe?
The strangest things always happen to me
Walking at night when the dog has to wee

Kangaroo ©2002 Joe McDermott/True Blue Music BMI

Are you lonely?
Do you need a pet?
There are so many, which is best?

Dogs are great,
Fish are nice
Cats can really catch those mice
Before you decide which might be best
Here is one I'd like to suggest…

I think you should get a baby kangaroo
It might just be the perfect pet for you
They bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce
And they also hop

When they're joeys they are cute
Your mom will like it too
‘cause your house will start to look just like a zoo

dad will enjoy not working so hard
cause grass won't ever grow in the yard

I think you should get a baby kangaroo
When you are tired of the bouncing guess what they will do?
They bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce
So get yourself a baby kangaroo

In about two years it will be fully grown
You'll need a bigger yard and you'll need a bigger home
Cause when he was little he loved to bounce
And now he's bigger and he loves to Bounce

Let Your Light Shine ©1986 Joe McDermott/True Blue Music BMI

Some people want to live in anger
Some people want to live in the rain
I tell you this and I know it's true
What you give is what you gain

We all have a light inside of us
Waiting to come out
It's bigger than anything you fear
Or anything you might be worried about

Let your light shine on the world
Take any chance that you heart really wants to
Dream any dream, you know it might come true
Let your light shine on the world
Let your light shine on the world

Some people only want to cause trouble
I can think of better things to do
And those better things that I'm thinking about
Can help the world think of better things too

When we're happy the world is happy
It spreads around-it's true
We all might live in a better place
And it all might start with me and you

When we don't feel important
When we don't feel we're good enough
We might pretend that we're afraid
We might pretend that we're tough

But being tough and being afraid
Are really both the same
And once we know who we really are
We'll never have to pretend again

Noise ©2002 Joe McDermott/True blue music BMI

Always be ready when eating spaghetti
To cover your mouth if you burp
The child who is quiet, polite, contrite
Never smacks or slurps
Sometimes polite is nice to enjoy
But sometimes you gotta make noise!

You gotta make noise!
Noise! Noise! Noise!
Some times polite is nice to enjoy
But sometimes you gotta make noise

It will do no harm
To put your hand under your arm
And make a little noise like this
And what good would it be to be up in a tree
and not look at your friend and say, "Nanny nanny boo boo!"
Sometimes polite is nice to enjoy
But sometimes you gotta make noise!

Let's go outside and exercise the right to bellow and howl
Make a noise like this or a snakey hiss
And don't forget this beautiful sound
Clap your hands, stomp your feet
And here comes the crème de la cream

The forbidden noise of all girls and boys
The simple (but effective) Scream!

Now being asleep is always a bore
But it's not so bad if you snort and snore
And being in church, you may not wiggle
And you know what will happen if you even think about the…
Giggle!

Sometimes polite is nice to enjoy
But sometimes you gotta make noise!

Patience and Time ©2002 Joe McDermott/True Blue Music BMI

It all happened early this year
When the winter was turning to spring
I walked down to the library
I was looking for a summer thing
Ran into my favorite librarian
And she took me right to the shelf
(Found a book called) Gardening Easy As 123
Completely do it yourself

I read that book from cover to cover
Went to the seed store with my uncle
Got the basics of horticulture easy as one two three

Refrain:
Little brown seeds go in the ground
Little green sprouts came shooting out
If you ask me that's the mystery
That summer is all about
While the butterflies all flutter by
And the summer breezes blow
Rain and shine, patience and time
Makes the garden grow

To see those plants pop out of the earth
Was a truly amazing thing
Then something I hadn't expected at all
Started happening
The snake, the lizard, the snail and slug
The lady, potato and the doodlebug
The house and the dragon and the firefly
Then the earthworm stopped by

Little brown seeds go in the ground
Little green sprouts come shooting out
The insect friends start moving in
That's what summer's all about
While the butterflies all flutter by
And the summer breezes blow
Rain and shine, patience and time
Make our garden grow

A few months went past – then at last
Everything started to bloom
Zinnias, phlox, nasturtiums and forget-me-nots
Looked like the sky on the fourth of July

All the beautiful flowers of summer
in every shape and every hue
I examine them very carefully
And I pick the prettiest two
I take one to my Momma
I take one to the library
And give it to the librarian who found that book for me
And I think life's a little better
Than it was last spring you know

Money might talk
And love might make the world go round you know
But rain and shine, patience and time
Makes the garden grow
Makes our gardens grow

Spider Detective ©2002 Joe McDermott/True Blue Music BMI

Now children
You're sitting around in the morning
eating cereal from those little cereal bowls
when a fly comes buzzing around and lands on your nose
you take a rolled-up news paper and whack yourself on the face
and your cereal spills all over the place

Now friend, you have a problem old as time
And I think you should meet a little friend of mine

Sneaking down the hallway (stopping that buzz)
Underneath the couch maybe (living with the fuzz)
Or spying from the corner way up high
She's a spider detective she can catch that fly

She's quiet and patient
With a sneaky attitude
And she won't ask for money
She works for food

To capture and seize, that's her career
She's been in this biz for millions of years
She's often still, but never ever lazy
You can count on her when those flies drive you crazy

She has a corner office ‘cause she's really the best
At putting those pesky flies to the test
So next time you see her spinning her web way up high
Say, "Thanks you cute little private eye"

Thank You Mud ©2002 Joe McDermott/True Blue Music BMI

The other day I was walking
outside with my girlfriend
The sky began to darken
My umbrella I unfurled then
Girl and fella and umbrella
Rain fell from above
I held her hand her eyes met mine
And then we fell in…
to the mud

(Refrain)
Thank you mud
For ending all my stories
Thank you mud just when it gets boring
If your story needs and ending
If your story is a dud
You can make it better
If you add a little mud

It's slippery, it's slimy, it's stinky, it's crude
But I think mud can sometimes really help your attitude
If your dreams come crashing ‘round you
Falling with a thud
It wont' seem so bad if they fall into the mud

(Repeat refrain)
Now take a little water and a big old pile of dirt
Now there's a happy ending wth no one getting hurt
It makes the baby laugh and it makes your momma cry
It makes us all feel happy when the mud begins to fly

Just the other day my teacher asked me
To turn in my assignment
I looked in backpack, coat rack, lunch sack
But I could not find it
My teacher put her face to mine (and) said.
"Where's your homework, bud?"
But lucky me that's when my teacher…
Fell into the mud

Transportation Vacation ©2002 Joe McDermott/True Blue Music BMI

We rode in a taxi a long long way
Arrived at the airport Saturday
Took the moving sidewalk straight to the gate
Hopped aboard flight twenty-eight
The captain said, "where you headed today?"
We said, "We just came to ride the plane!"

The plane was fun but it had to land
So we rode around on the airport tram
We took a city bus to the railway station
Westbound Amtrak, what a vacation!
That train went fast that train went far
We had dinner on the dinning car

On a transportation vacation
Traveling is our destination
North or South, we don't care

‘Cause as soon as you leave, you're already there
We enjoyed that linier locomotion
But the train ran out of track at the ocean
So we hopped aboard a sailing ship
Sailed the sea at a steady clip
Where the stars all sparkle and the jellyfish glow
Man we love to go-go-go!

Last stop – a trip to NASA
On a transportation vacation
Well, you just hafta
And I learned something after a long exhausting week
Those space rockets have really comfortable seats
Some sort of high-tech space-age fleece
We sat down, we fell asleep

When we woke up, everyone else was gone
The doors were closed and the ready lights were on
The buttons and switches started to glow
A voice crackled out of the radio
"five-four-three-two-one lift off!"
we thought we'd traveled every place
but there we were in outer space!

"Mom, next year can we just go camping?"
"We'll talk about it later dear"
